Southampton University
Southampton University - Gold Sponsor
The University of Southampton is one of the world’s leading entrepreneurial universities, with an impressive track record as a partner to business and the public sector. We are committed to increasing innovation in the marine, healthcare and sustainability sectors and are actively seeking industry partners for joint research and development.
- Large organisations are moving to the area in order to establish closer links with the University – Lloyds Register will be moving to Southampton to co-locate with the University in 2014 and Merck, a global chemicals company, has based its UK R&D HQ at the University of Southampton Science Park to be close to the School of Chemistry
- We are engaged with businesses in a huge range of collaborative research and consultancy. These contracts were worth £35 million in 2009, and have been built on substantial, long-term relationships in many cases
- We have an on campus business incubator which provides specialist business development support and facilities for high-tech start-up companies. Established in 2003, the centre has incubated over 30 companies, and in 2010 alone helped them raise £9.2m pounds of investment
- We host five University Technology Centres in collaboration with leading organisations – Microsoft, Airbus, RNLI, Lloyd’s Register and Rolls-Royce. These centres enable intensive research and development and technology innovation between the University and industry
- We host seven professional enterprise units with combined annual revenue of £7m and 125 staff. One of these, the Wolfson Unit, a world-renowned yacht design consultancy, working with high-profile clients including participants in America’s Cups and the Volvo Ocean Race. We helped the British Cycling team win triple gold in Bejing by providing aerodynamics testing in our wind tunnels and are a UK Sport Innovation partner for the 2012 Olympics
